Vancouver Truckers' Strike
Customer Advisory
Date: March 11, 2014
Dear Valued Westwood Customer,
Current State:
-
Multiple trucker unions in Vancouver, BC have rejected mediators' attempts to resolve concerns related to long turn times at Ocean Terminals.
-
Truck operations at BC Ocean Terminals have all been dramatically reduced. Local drayage activity has been limited. Please refer to the attached link from Port Metro Vancouver, which shows truck activity in and out of the main Ocean Terminals.
http://www1.portmetrovancouver.com/COGS_Chart/GPSTruck/pmvindex - In order to keep Ocean Terminal inventory manageable, Carriers have been requested to load empty containers to the first available departing vessel.
Future Outlook:
-
In order to maintain operating levels, Ocean Terminals will need to have Carriers continue to evacuate empties until the truckers' strike is resolved. Government officials are working with the trucking community to expedite resolution of the issues.
- Irrespective of the trucker strike, rail freight will continue to load as railcars come in, but the Terminals will not guarantee FIFO loading.
Once again, we apologize for the inconveniences you have experienced due to these delays. We are continuing to work hard with both CN Rail and Centerm to expedite your cargo and will keep you updated as the situation changes.
As always, please feel free to contact your customer service team if you have any questions or concerns:
